Due North exhibition

Burren College of Art, Ballyvaughan, County Clare has organised a Nordic art exhibition. The Due North exhibition presents recent photos, videos and moving image works by six Finnish and one Swedish artist. The Finnish artists are Heli Rekula, Pekka ja Lea Kantonen, Pertti Kekarainen, Johanna Lecklin and Sami van Ingen. Sweden is represented by Jan Svenungsson. The idea is to showcase the distinctiveness of Finnish and Northern visual art and photography, whose qualities differ - despite the fact that we live in a globalising world - from visual culture in more southern regions.

On 9th August Ambassador Mr Seppo Kauppila opened the exhibition which is supported by Clare County Council, The Finnish Arts Council, The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki and The Finnish Institute in London. The curators of the exhibition are Professor Jan Kaila and Martina Cleary, who is the Curator in Burren College. She is a distinguished artist in her own right specialised in multi-media. The exhibition will continue until 26th September.
