The Embassy had the pleasure to host the Transport and Communications Committee of the Finnish Parliament, chaired by MP Ari Jalonen, in Dublin on 11–13 October. The Committee visited the Irish Parliament, government departments in charge of transport, communications and foreign affairs and several companies operating in the transport and communications sectors.
At the Irish Parliament (Houses of the Oireachtas), the committee was welcomed by the Speaker of the Parliament (Ceann Comhairle) Seán Ó Fearghaíl, who had just recently visited Finland himself. The committee also met members of the Communication and Transport committees. At the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, the committee was briefed on topical issues in Ireland's communications and cyber security policies.
Ireland's current transportation projects and future plans for transport were in turn the main topics at the meeting with the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport. Brexit and its implications were also discussed at both departments, and Ireland's Brexit priorities were presented more extensively by the Department of the Foreign Affairs and Trade. In addition, the committee visited several companies operating in the transport and communications sectors as well as Dublin Airport.
