Travel broadens one’s horizons, but a trip doesn’t always go according to plan. At times one may feel insecure; natural phenomena may also take one by surprise. Sometimes there is no need to worry and the surprise is positive.
The Foreign Ministry has created the new The world surprises map service so that information can be shared among travellers.
Created in cooperation with Mapita, a Finnish company producing map based questionnaires, the service makes it possible to share one’s own experiences while also reading stories posted by other travellers and the travel bulletin about the destination country produced by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In addition, all of Finland’s diplomatic missions are marked on the map.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is campaigning on behalf of safe travel and wishes to remind travellers of the three Ts of safe travel: the travel bulletin, the travel notification and travel insurance.
The world surprises service also figures prominently at the Ministry’s stand during the Nordic Travel Fair on 15–18 January 2015. A large touch screen will be set up at the stand so that Fair guests can test the application on site. The theme of the Fair stand this year is travel safety.
Lots will be drawn to distribute 50 tickets to the Fair among those who have shared an experience on The world surprises service by 31 December 2014.
Visit the service site (in Finnish and Swedish only) and share your own experiences!
